The pigs and equality speech, at the start, is a reference to Orwell's Animal Farm.

This is the shortest episode of Black Mirror to date at just 38 minutes long.
In the beginning, when the young man try to hack the car, his device displays command lines including "\bm\04\callister\60s.custom.drivers" and "\bm04\mianolan\architecture.sys" which refer to episodes one and three of the fourth Black Mirror season (and obviously this episode number).
